I have never used one of the Chinese radios but have heard they are difficult to program. This KG-UV8D looks like it might be worth trying out.
There’s a whole lot of radio to love right there!
Hello here!
I received Wouxun KG-UV8D as soon as it has been released. The radio looks great, fine design and good quality. Made some tests by throwing the radio underwater, from 2nd floor and it resisted well with some scratches, did not break. The sound is excellent, comfortable radio for amateur and individual usage. Also the radio is ergonomic, do not take much space, easy user menu, programming. Works very stable with Moldovan repeater which TX 5W. A highly valued item for budget and professional customers! Highly recommend this Wouxun KG-UV8D Dual Band Radio!

I have been shopping around for a new HT as I am planning a big (at least 5 units) purchase as I plan to gift these to an EMCOMM club station to help in emergency communications. I’d like to test drive this latest unit to experience it’s capabilities.
The radio seems feature rich – should I get one?
I like the radio, especially if I get it for free.
73
I have been waiting for you guys to get more in. I waited about 2 days last time and you sold out. Now you have another shipment in and the KG UV8D is accessorized better so maybe I can get a NEW KG UV8D for free. For the money and all that the KD UV8D can do I don’t think there’s another HT on the market that can touch this.
Robert n0yg

Just returned to Ham Radio after 40 years of inactivity. Took all three tests at one sitting and passed them; not bad for a retired computer programmer. Didn’t even have clip leads left after all these years. A Wouxon would be an incentive for me to look a those high bands.
This is a nice prize.

Great idea to get a little more activity on UHF/VHF. Your generosity will be appreciated by the lucky winner. The rest of us will be fortunate to see all the bands come to life more frequently. I know that 2 meters has been in the doldrums around our location for more than a few years. Well done.

Well, here’s my two cents toward winning a Wouxun KG-UV8D! Thanks!
Pick me! Pick me! 🙂
I would to try one of these radios out.
A man received the following text from his neighbor:
“I am so sorry Bob. I’ve been riddled with guilt and I have to confess, I have been tapping your wife, day and night, when you’re not around. In fact, more than just me are from the neighborhood. I’m not getting any at home, but that’s no excuse.
I just had to come clean with you.
I can no longer live with the guilt and I hope you will accept my sincerest apology with my promise that it won’t happen again. I decided I needed to upgrade, so have the other guys from the neighborhood.”
Bob, anguished and betrayed, went into his bedroom, grabbed his gun, and without a word, shot his wife. As he became more distraught and realized what he had done, he decided to shoot himself.
Just then he heard an incoming message on his text system….
“Damn auto correct. I meant WiFi, not wife.”
Here is my comment!

Excellent prize… thanks very much!
would be a wonderful gift… for me!
fantastic radio , just right for the backpack or the over night bag.
The Wouxun handheld and mobile units are fully featured and great value. Here in Europe, where access to the 70MHz/4m amateur band is expanding as a result of the withdrawal of analogue TV services, the Wouxun KG-699E will encourage greater use of this band with its unique characteristics.
We are also hopeful that a version of the KG-UV950P that covers the 70MHz/4m amateur band will be introduced soon.
Wouxun have become very popular and are on a winner with their new KG-UV8D Handy Talkie.
Nice giveaway…
What a great looking radio. Again Wouxun have done a nice job a great radio at a great price.
I help young cadets of the Air Training Corps. to learn and understand radio communications
up to the foundation radio licence, as I do believe that this is were the free next generation of Radio Hams
will come from.
I would like to win this radio as most of the Cadets can not afford the cost of a good radio, as the Cadets
age range between 13 to 18, so I would offer this radio if I won, to offer it to the top Cadet regards
the earning of their first Ham Radio Licence in my wing as a prize.
Thank you and 73’s to all.

comment
Thanks for another awesome contest!
Looks like a good HT.
We’re all winners in Amateur Radio.
Love to own one
First, the “Cons” of the UV-8D radio:
One, it doesn’t have any larger battery available, which will be an issue for some users.
Two, because the color display goes dark after a few seconds (making the radio unreadable), you tend to up the display timeout setting in order to see the display, which causes the battery to drain faster (see item one listed above).
Now the “Pros” of the UV-8D radio:
Other than the display issue, it’s hard to find any serious faults with the UV-8D radio. It will certainly cause Yaesu some sales headaches, as the FT-60R now appears so “last generation” compared to the UV-8D. The UV-8D looks like someone’s smaller iPhone color display fused into an HT, plus it has the ability to display so much more information on the larger UV-8D display.
They both have approximately the same number of memories (1000 vs. 999), they both have the capability to transmit/receive over wide areas (although the FT-60R has to have a physical mod done first), but the Yaesu ships only with a smaller 1400mAh battery and does not support cross-band (which I fully admit probably won’t be used much in an HT for a variety of reasons, including power and heating issues).
I predict more and more handheld radios will follow this path in the future, but perhaps with a Kindle like black/white display that doesn’t consume much power and would allow the display to be “on” full time without taxing battery life.
Having a wife with a General Class license, winning one would allow me to actually use a UV-8D, as the first one purchased (by me) has “magically” been claimed.
Thank you for offering this opportunity. I would surely put the HT to good use. 73
Rock on, sweet rig
nice radio
Wow. Hope I win.
Many thanks for producing this column. I tend to read it most nights and it has helped me to explore other parts of the ham radio hobby that I may not of considered before reading about them here. Thank you.

Wouxun makes a great radio for the money, and I like mine. After a couple of years of hard use, I could use a new one, though. 🙂
great contest idea
Looks like nice radio.
Looks like a fun new toy!
Being in the mountains means needing a good radio for “just in case times”. This would be a nice radio to have during those times.
A friend has a Wouxun and I like the size not to big or too small screen easy to read it looks like a well built radio.
Looks like a great radio with many fine features.
I believe it was about a time to have a radio like this one. We spent a lot of money buying expenses radio with not too many spec. cross band repeater give us the chance to use it as a portable help in places where repeaters are not reachable. Big display and dual watch is a plus. It seems to be easy to operate and the general functions are pretty good too. I hope this one encourage the others brand to realize that a radio does not need cost an arm and a leg to accomplish what we need.
I COULD SURE USE A NEW HT. 🙂
Great to see more and more features and quality going into this new generation of HTs. But the best part is that the price is so reasonable. My first HT, a 6 channel, crystal controlled, VHF only Wilson HT1405SM cost more than $300 with all the extras back in 1977 when I was 17 years old. Using on online CPI inflation calculator, that translates to about $1200 today!
the prices are almost to good to be true, makes a little experimentation a reasonable thing to do.
I whant to Win a Free Wouxun KG-UV8D HT
A stunning radio with great features for a price that’s even more stunning
Great radio and great price!
For many years I followe the progress in ham radio gear of small chinese factories. A long time ago, one of them loosk promising to me and I am happy to see that my prediction came alive. Wouxun is leading the way in small and afordable HT’s. Their HTs might not be the best in the market but they sure are affordable. They are promoting the amateur radio by giving the chance to almost everyone to have a transceiver in his pocket! Great job Wouxun, keep it like that! Adrian, yo3hjv
Looks like a great little rig, and with a 2600mAh battery could be just the ticket for the summer season!
This could be my very first HT in my life… crossing my fingers !
Just getting back into Ham
radio and could use a new handheld rig!
*rolls the dice*

Regards Claus OE2CEN
Good luck to all in the lottery!
I hope I can show it off at Field Day! 73
These wouxun radios are ideal for newcomers to the hobby. As starting-up in the hobby is expensive, & anything that promotes newly licensed amateurs get on the air is a good thing !
I especially hope I win this as my eye sight is slowly deteriorating & the large screen would help in use.
Apart from that, a handheld I could keep in the car would be fantastic, as I would always have a backup ready In the car.
As I’ve broken down a few times & could have done with a radio to ask someone one on the local repeater for help!
With this radio Wouxun have not only caught up with the Japanese, they have overtaken them.
I have been using a UV-5R for a while now. I am totally in love with this radio. Wouxun designs and makes some of the finest radio equipment in the world!!
Wouxun makes my day!
Great walky. It looks like a very good transceiver. The display is very cool.
I think it will be very famous in the ham radio world.
Juan Carlos, EA1FZ
Please add my name to the list. I have the 2/220 version of this HT and love it. My club has given several away as prizes. Thanks. 73, Bob

I have a portable transceiver UV6 and I am very satisfied with the operation, the bugs have been fixed from the UV1. These equipment was best price vs quality relation from the market. Had a old UV1 portable for a long time and traveled by automobile with him throughout Europe, always worked flawlessly and it was possible to contact hams from Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland in mobil operation both repeater and direct V/UHF, always good reports and only 5 W and quarter wave antenna. Very interesting maintain communication with both amateur with a small outfit and very difficult weather conditions in winter time, so why spend more money on portable transceivers if Wouxun do the same, are more durable and economic?
More Great additions by Wouxon to the wonderful world of Amateur Radio 🙂
This radio looks great!
Congratulations to amateurradio.com this page in the web, very good all the space showing interesting in all.All the best all who work in this.God,Lord blessed all.

I’ve been looking for an HT with Xband ever since the ADI AT-600 went out of production.
The ADI was my favorite out of the MANY HT’s i’ve owned over the years. One of my chief complaints was the small LCD. Not so with this new model! I can’t wait to see what news ideas come from these “new” companies!
73, Damon
Great job…Keep up the good work!!
Wouxon the only Handy-Talky

One more equipment with the excellent price vs quality Wouxun has made in his history.

Ham radio is a great hobby!
Great little radio with a big punch. It beats some of the american manufacturers on both price and quality.
Nice looking HT.

Looks like a nice radio.
I´ll have one thank you very much ! 😛
Keep up the nice work.
I like the large display. I wonder how it compares to the Baofeng UV-82L.
I wood like to add a cross band radio to my shack.
In for the radio contest!
AWESOME!!!! I could use something new. My old old old 2m just won’t die, Can’t justify buying a new one. Been driven on, dropped from quite high, submerged, rusted, probably burned a few times, built them too good, it’s going to out live me.
It is always nice to see less expensive better products, I just hope they are good enough that they don’t frustrate more people than they please. 😉 I had a bad series of earlier radios from this manufacturer… But hoping this one is better!
Like that. I want one. 🙂 Like that.
I would leave it mounted on the bicycle.
I currently own a Wouxun HH. It’s a great little radio.
Would definitely come in handy!
Try my look im in need of a new HT as since the wife and daughter got their ticket I seem to have lost my only 2 HT’s. Fingers crossed

Hi! I’m a new ham and in need of gear. So, why not take my chances and try to win a HT?
I’m in for this!
Looks like a nice unit.
What a change from 1950 when our car truck was full of dyna moters and the passenger car front was full of a radio so we could be separated from our fixed station. I never thought a radio could be built so small and compact that we could walk around with it
Looks awesome!
I think this must be giving the big manufacturers something to worry about!

Trying my luck as a satisfied Wouxun user.
A big thankyou to amateurradio.com for making these giveaways truly international, just like the amateur radio hobby!
Very useful bit of kit and the x-band repeat excellent. Looks less cluttered that the old Woux HH and a shame no commonality with previous batteries etc? But, for the price, it beats a lot of extablished HHs on the market, which do not offer half of what this does.
One definitely for the grab bag.
OK! Hope I win!
Looks like another great radio!
Nice little rig…and appreciate the opportunity from AmateurRadio.com!
Wouxun keep only!
