Ransomware

Bleeping Computer reported on a Maine state filing by ARRL. The systems outage was caused by a ransomware attack (PDF download).

    I’ll add that I find it really disheartening that members had to learn of the root cause of the major systems outage via a public legal filing, especially after ARRL complained in one update that “certain members believe we should be openly communicating everything associated with this incident”.

    I agree, I worked and worked on my LOTW site, thinking there was something wrong with it. Then I wrote the League and asked how to fix it. No answer until the notice finally came out about this attack. That is not good communication from an organization devoted to communications. Just a simple message to everyone about “problems…details to follow” and then very simple and short updates would have been more than enough.
